Inspirational Motivational Words

Socrates’ Triple Filter Test

One day, a man came to the famous philosopher Socrates and said,
“Socrates, do you know what I just heard about your friend?”

Socrates replied,
“Wait a moment, before you tell me, I want to ask you three questions.”

  1. Are you sure? Is what you are about to tell me absolutely true?
The man answered, “No, I’m not sure if it’s true. I just heard it.”

  2. Is it something good about my friend?
    “Um… no, it’s something bad.”

  3. Is what you’re about to tell me useful for me?
    “No, not really.”

Then Socrates said,
“If what you want to say is neither true, nor good, nor useful, then why tell me at all?”

In reality, it’s always better to avoid listening to false words that bring no benefit and may only cause harm.
